The premium-endpoint problem
Most API platforms reach a point where some endpoints cost materially more to operate or deliver materially more value than the rest. The naive answer — flat rate across all endpoints — leaves money on the table. The complex answer — per-endpoint pricing for everything — makes the catalog unintelligible to customers.
This article works through the practical middle path: tiered endpoint classes, surcharges for premium, transparency about which endpoints sit where, and the rating logic that supports it.
